In Mark 13, Jesus said ‘From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near.’
Christ is present with us in this season in a variety of ways. One way is that Christ goes before us. Set aside a few moments to watch and wait. What goes through your mind or emotions? Can you envision Christ ahead of you, ready to accompany you?
The beginning of Advent brings scripture passages that look ahead. Christ goes before us so we are not alone. It can be helpful to remember to do a simple thing and look at a tree, or something close by, and recognize from the seasons that what we face is not the whole story. There is more ahead, and Christ goes before us.
Think of one way this week that you can slow down to notice, to really notice, a tree. What does it smell like? What colors do you see? Who makes a home there? How can the tree help you open your spirit to Christ going before you?
People of St. Timothy, I am grateful that you continue to look ahead for the ways that Christ leads us by going before us!
