In the gospel of Matthew, as we will hear on Sunday, Jesus sees how the crowds were “harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” So Jesus chooses 12 from among the disciples to be “apostles,” or ones sent out. To bring healing. To bring teaching and guidance. To bring friendship and companionship. To bring nourishment.
As we hear that, we give thanks for those who have been “apostles” to us with good news. Maybe family members or friends or St. Timothy members or…who else? As we give thanks for those who have touched our lives, we can also take a moment to ponder those to whom WE have been sent. Perhaps we have not brought good news into their lives as well or as effectively as we would wish, but God is not done with us. We continue to gain insight together as disciples so we can share good news of God’s love in our weekday lives.
Beloved people of St. Timothy, God continues to go with us through all our days. May God grant you joys of insight and wonder this week.
Peace,
Hans
