Come and See!

In John 1 this Sunday, we will hear Jesus’ invitation to “Come and see.” When faced with questions from others, Jesus doesn’t try to prove a point so much as invite them to come along and explore for themselves. I keep finding that God does not so much send answers as people to accompany us. It is that solidarity that helps us.

When we are uncertain about whether or not something is true, it helps to explore that with others. How can we share what works for us with our journeys of faith and spirit, and listen to others about theirs? How can that help us with those who are dealing with profound questions? Who has accompanied you in your journey to help you along?

One part of ministry at St. Timothy that I value is the role of mentoring. As older and younger people here get together, we each get the invitation to come and see. In Confirmation and Wilderness School, we especially see the importance of these relationships. They often continue long after the formal part has finished. Who has been a mentor for you?

People of St. Timothy, in the choppy waves of these times, I am grateful that you keep seeking to bind up the brokenhearted and to embody love in your everyday lives. Let us continue to “come and see” together.

Peace,
Hans
