“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:21

Sometimes I get weary of all the evil happening in our world. Paul knew how often the little church in Rome felt that, too, and encouraged them to keep on. What helps you continue to seek goodness in your life and world?

John Lewis called for people to notice when something was not right, and to get into “good trouble” or “necessary trouble” to help bring about change. How was John Lewis’ advice like what Paul was writing to the Romans?

When you feel about ready to be overcome by suffering and hardship, stop and notice three bits of goodness or wonder. It might be a goldfinch or garlic, a good friend or memory, a fragrance or the feel of ground under your feet, or any of a million other things. Take some time for wonder and gratitude to make space for goodness.
