In Luke 24, the risen Jesus appears to the disciples and it says, “While in their joy they were disbelieving and still wondering, Jesus said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate in their presence.”
I think it is amazing in this Easter gospel reading that Jesus wants to eat with the disciples. What does that say to you?
Broiled fish would have referred to the common food of peasants. In our day, it might be a peanut butter sandwich or fish taco or rice & beans. Jesus wants people to have daily bread. How does eating together with others lead us to food justice?
This week as we struggle with the killing of Daunte Wright, you may be feeling complex emotions. Listen deeply to Black neighbors, to those who suffer, and to those who seek change. Act in the ways you are able for racial justice. If possible, take time to eat with someone and recognize the risen Jesus is there with you, too.
