This week we hear again of Jesus’ baptism, but from the perspective of John sharing with his disciples, “I myself have seen and have testified that this is the Son of God.” John’s powerful testimony surely fanned the flames of the movement growing around Jesus. Who was this person about whom John, who had already gained his own following as God’s servant, gave this astounding testimony?
In a world of likes and shares on social media, of fake news and fact checking and misleading polls, we know the power of reliable testimony. And whether we feel it or not, our words have power too, especially with those in our circles. Although we might not think of ourselves as important as John the Baptist, each of us can point to God’s goodness and truth revealed in our midst. What does that look like for you, today?
