In this week’s reading from 2 Corinthians, Paul talks about a thorn in his side that made him weak — yet in Paul’s weakness, God’s power was “made perfect.”
There are many voices in our world today that tell us how to get to “perfect.” Whether it’s a fitness regimen or a spiritual practice, we are told that “this one thing” or “these ten steps” will give us control of our own self-designed destinies.
God tells us a different way: a way in which our weaknesses are the opening for God’s grace to rush in. In which confession, and forgiveness and growth are all happening at the same time. In which we are not in control, but we trust that God is present for every part of the journey, high and low.
