Jesus Dies For All People

How are you doing at this point in our Lenten journey? Some people love the season of Lent. (I am one of those). Others dislike it, find it oppressive or discouraging. How is it for you? Be honest.

In another week, we will move into what we call Holy Week. The cross, and all that Jesus goes through before that trauma, are just ahead. It can be hard for us, stirring up emotions that we didn’t even know were simmering below the surface. Make space in your being for whatever arises.

Jesus talks openly about his death. Death and dying can be difficult topics to talk about, yet Jesus meets us at a point that all human beings share – our mortality. It is good that God does not leave us alone. Christ comes to show compassion for us in our vulnerability. This can help us live with compassion with one another.

I like – and am also challenged by – the gospel promise that Jesus did not just die for some, but to “draw all people to myself.” Friends, I am grateful that we have been training together during these weeks, and I pray for us to have the courage to continue our practice in loving God with our whole being and loving our neighbors as ourselves. It is a worthwhile practice!

Peace,
Hans
