Knowing Christ Crucified

The new believers in Corinth often jostled with one another for prominence. They showed immaturity in their faith community. When Paul visited them, he didn’t speak in lofty words of wisdom or mystery. No, it was more down-to-earth. As we’ll hear on Sunday, Paul said, “For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”

We can do that, too. We can get to know Jesus Christ among one another in our community, for Christ lives among us, too. As Jesus shared our earthly life and pushed for new kind of community where Jews and Gentiles could live together in God’s grace, we have that opportunity again as well. Christ was crucified because he threatened the powers of his day with a vision of God’s bread and love for all. We can experience Christ crucified in our community as we seek to live together as disciples.

Beloved at St. Timothy, I experience Christ among you each week through your heart, hands, and hopes in action and joy. God grant you what you need for today!

Peace,
Hans
