“When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream” sings the psalmist, in a little bit of poetry that lights up my imagination (126:1). We were joyful, filled with laughter, shouting praises, the psalmist goes on. But in “those who dream” I also hear a hint of the surreal-ness of God’s presence among them. When the long-awaited arrival of God’s Spirit comes among us, the separation between sleeping and waking blurs. God’s kingdom comes nearer and we are in a liminal place.
These holiday days can feel so rushed and overly full. Yet these are also days ripe with God’s arrival. Is it possible that we can also slow down enough to be like those who dream? Friends in Christ, may we rest, take space to breathe, and welcome the Spirit in our midst for just one moment at a time in the days to come. For God is arriving, even now.
With you on the journey,
Liesl
