In Acts 16, Paul had a vision of a man inviting him to come and share the gospel in Macedonia. So on the sabbath, Paul and his friends went to a place of prayer there and they promptly met…a group of women. In that male-dominated age, Paul met with these women and at least one, Lydia, was baptized (along with her household). Then Lydia “prevailed upon” Paul to come and stay at their home as a sign of acceptance.
Jesus’ resurrection leads to opportunities that cross old boundaries. Paul crosses over into Macedonia (new territory), and then preaches to a group of women who become the first in Europe to welcome the good news and live as new disciples. What boundaries do you have the chance to cross in your life? Who might be unexpected (like Lydia) that shows you the way of new welcome?
People of St. Timothy, I am grateful for the openness you show to learning new things and opening your hearts in new ways.
