In 1 John 3, we hear, “Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed.”
We understand the tension of now and not-yet. We can see reality now, but we can’t see what is not-yet. Do we act with hope? With weariness? With despair?
Next Sunday is All Saints’ Day. We remember those who have died before us. We acknowledge the impact of our ancestors and give thanks for them, even while we make space for our grief. How do you tend the tension of now and not-yet?
As we look at the world around us, we see the pressing realities now of climate change, pandemic needs, calls for justice and equity. How does the now (as God’s beloved) and the not-yet help you to live forward?
I give thanks how you share your beloved nature now through St. Timothy, leaning into what is not-yet apparent.
