In John 10, Jesus says, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice.”
What does it mean for you to listen to someone’s voice? Think of the specific tones, cadences, and vocabulary that go with that voice. We recognize that our hearing may not work well, or many noises may get in the way. What helps you to slow down and listen? How can you listen for the Shepherd’s voice that does not come in the same auditory way?
What does it mean to you that the shepherd has other sheep that do not belong to this fold? How does that affect the way you treat those who are outside your belief or identity group?
In these days, how does the Shepherd’s voice speak through advocates for the earth, or advocates for BIPOC neighbors, or advocates for children in poverty? What helps you to listen with many noises that could distract, in a time when our hearing has not always been practiced well?
